BDC Election Process

The election process of BDC is done in a simple way. This election is conducted by the Election Commission of the State Government. This election is done through ballot paper.

Citizens of Gram Sabha can directly participate in the election of BDC. A ward is earmarked for this election and only the people who come within the same ward can vote in it. The election of BDC’s is done according to the ward of the Gram Sabha i.e. there can be many BDC’s in a big Gram Sabha. 

After the voting process of the election is over, the votes are counted, and whoever wins the election with the majority of the candidates becomes a BDC member.

After this, the certificate is given to the winning candidate by the State Election Commission, and oath is also administered to the BDC member by the Gram Panchayat Secretary.

BDC members play an important role in electing the block head at the block level, as the BDC member stands as the candidate for the block head. All the BDC members together elect the block chief. And this block head is the head of all the BDC’s.

Talking about salary, in some states of our country, BDC member gets 4000 to 4800 rupees as honorarium. In Uttar Pradesh, BDC is not given any honorarium.

But allowance is provided to them by the government, which includes traveling allowance, apart from this, every time Rs 500 is provided to BDC for attending the meeting of Panchayat.
